Fred with the Duiker patient collected from the verge of a busy highway near Mossel Bay. Dr Johan Barkhuizen of Mossel Bay Diere Hospitaal took it in for urgent assessment and treatment if possible.
It was obviously hit by a car which just left it on the road to its inevitable fate of a painful and lingering death. One of our visitors to Pondokkie came across it when driving past. Not knowing what to do to help it, he called me in desperation. I eventually found it. The poor little duiker could only lift its front as the back was paralysed. Either a broken or badly injured back or broken back legs. Its big brown eyes were pleading!!
